The district of Kusel was situated in the western part of the German Palatinate, an area from which many early emigrants to America originated. Considering the almost permanent residence of the Palatines in a given area prior to emigration, the occurrence of a particular name in an early visitation--such as those listed in this book--is almost sufficient evidence of the linkage between the emigrant and his/her forebears--a full century before the great period of emigration.
